How is a day's rental calculated?

Our daily rentals run on a 24-hour block. If your rental period is one day and you collect at 10am Thursday, your return time is 10am Friday. Returning earlier still counts as one day; returning later crosses into a new rental day.

How do I pay for a rental?

Some vehicles can be booked instantly with a 30% deposit to confirm. The remainder is due 7 days before your rental period. Bookings made within 7 days of collection are payable in full.

Can I get a quote before committing?

Yes. A quote is valid for 24 hours and is useful if you want to share pricing with a friend or colleague. You can convert it into a booking request from the link in the quote, and our team will review it.

What is a booking request?

Some vehicles require our team to check availability before confirming. If the vehicle is available we confirm your booking and use your entered payment details to take the 30% deposit.

Can I cancel my booking?

Yes. For vans and trailers: 30+ days no charge, 30–14 days 25%, 13–8 days 50%, under 7 days 100%. For all other vehicles: 14+ days no charge, 14–7 days 30% deposit charged, under 7 days 100%.

Emails from our booking platform occasionally land in junk or spam folders. Check there first, then get in touch and we'll resend.

Question 9

Do I pay for insurance?

Insurance is included. You have excess options: the default ranges from $2,500 to $6,500, reducible to $500–$2,500 with a daily excess reduction payment. The amount depends on your vehicle type and rental length.

What is excess?

Excess is the maximum you would pay per claim in the case of an accident or incident. If the damage costs less than the excess, you pay less than the excess total. See the rental agreement for details.

Do I have to pay a bond?

The pre-authorisation is a temporary hold of the excess quoted on your booking. It guarantees the funds are available to cover any damage.

When is the bond pre-authorisation released?

This varies with your card provider's processing times. Where there has been no damage, the pre-authorisation is released once infringements have been reviewed against your booking.

I'm under 21 — can I hire a vehicle?

Our insurance policy requires all nominated drivers to be 21 or over at the time of the rental period. Some vehicles require a minimum of 25.

Do I need a New Zealand driver's licence?

All international driver's licences are acceptable as long as they are in English. A foreign licence translation will be requested if the uploaded licence is not in English.

Can I add other named drivers?

Yes, and it is free to add extra drivers.

Question 16

Do I need a different licence class to drive a Mercedes Sprinter?

Accepted Answer

No. A standard full licence is all that's required.

Can I drive on all road types?

Accepted Answer

There is a prohibited road section in your agreement. It covers the obvious, plus private roads such as Skippers Road, and mountain access roads in winter for the Aston Martin, Mercedes C43 and Audi S5. Beyond that we ask for common sense — many remote parts of New Zealand have no cell coverage, so plan ahead and leave enough time.

Do I get unlimited kilometres?

Van rentals of 4+ days and car rentals of 5+ days include unlimited kilometres. Below those thresholds, 200 km per day is included and additional kilometres are $1/km. For the Aston Martin and McLaren, additional kilometres are $2/km with the same 200 km daily allowance.

Do I pay for fuel?

Rentals are full-to-full. We supply the vehicle full and you return it full. If you're unable to return it full there is a $50 refuel charge on top of the fuel cost.

Do I need to clean the vehicle before returning it?

A full clean and groom isn't necessary, but a $100 cleaning charge can apply if the vehicle is left in an unreasonable condition. A run through a wash bay and emptying the rubbish is appreciated.

Do you supply child seats?

In Queenstown we work with Tots on Tour, an experienced child travel safety operator. For $30 we'll visit the TOTS team so they can professionally fit the system you have booked through them. Confirm your vehicle booking with us first, then book with TOTS and mention your booking.

Do you supply winter accessories?

Accepted Answer

For certain vehicles — ski racks, roof boxes, snow chains and snow socks. If you don't see an option while booking, enquire by email. Note that excess options do not cover damage caused by winter accessories. NZTA requires vehicles on NZSki-managed mountain access roads, and on the Crown Range, to carry chains in winter.

What happens if I get a parking or speeding fine?

If you have the physical ticket you can follow its instructions to pay. If we receive a fine by post we will charge the card held in our secure vault plus a $40 processing fee.

Where are you located?

We have teams in Auckland, Christchurch and Queenstown, all within ten minutes of the airport.

Can I collect or return after hours?

Yes. Standard operating hours are 8am–6pm. Handovers are available between 6am–8am and 6pm–9pm for an additional $50.

Can the vehicle be delivered to my accommodation?

Yes. Costs vary with location and distance from our airport depots. Christchurch CBD is complimentary.

Be precise about your expected collection and return times when confirming. Further charges apply if you collect or return more than 30 minutes after the confirmed time. If you're running late, let us know as early as you can to avoid extra charges.
